Learning Centres offering free Parenting Programs & Seminars – Winter 2012 Session
The Simcoe County District School Board’s Learning Centres offer ‘Parents as Partners’ programs to all parents who currently have a child in school.
“These free programs help parents develop understanding, knowledge, skills and specific techniques that can be used at home to support and encourage the healthy development of their child,” says Jean Harnden, coordinator of parenting programs with the SCDSB’s Adult and Continuing Education department. “Participants will learn useful information and strategies to help their children succeed at school and discover ways to build a positive relationship with their child’s school,” she adds.
The following Parenting Programs are being offered for winter 2012:
Making the Difference Together Parenting Programs
Cool Solutions: This is a 20-hour anger management/conflict resolution program to find strategies to teach children how to handle frustration in a healthy way.
Effective Parenting: Parents will gain understanding in strategies, understanding and skills to help their children at home and at school.
Triple P Parenting Group
Triple P: Parenting your 2-10 year old: Parents will learn how to use positive parenting principles and techniques.
Triple P: Parenting your Pre-teen or Teen (ages 10-16): Parents will examine positive teen parenting principles and strategies for encouraging appropriate behaviour.
There are also a number of one-time, Triple P morning seminars being offered on the following topics:
o The Power of Positive Parenting
o Raising Confident, Competent Children
o Resilient Children
o Coping with Stress for Parents
o Raising Responsible Teenagers
o Raising Competent Teenagers
